Green card

International motor insurance certificate

The green card, also known as the international motor insurance certificate, is a mandatory document for traveling by car in certain countries. It serves as proof that your vehicle is insured against third-party liability both in the country you are visiting and in the transit countries. The green card covers costs of possible damage or injury you may cause to third parties while driving in countries where it is mandatory.

What does the green card cover?

The green card covers:

  • Costs of damage caused to third-party vehicles or property.
  • Compensation for injuries caused to third parties in traffic accidents.

You must hold a green card in certain countries to ensure smooth operation of the vehicle and adequate insurance cover in the event of a traffic accident. Without this document, you risk being refused entry to certain countries or having to pay high costs in the event of damage.

Where is the green card mandatory?

The green card is mandatory in the following countries: Ukraine, Moldova, Turkey, North Macedonia, Albania, Tunisia, Morocco, and Azerbaijan.

On the other hand, it is not required for most countries in the European Union. In addition, the green card is not required for Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro due to the mutual agreement on the recognition of compulsory insurance policies.

We recommend that you check the current green card requirements for your destination before you travel, as regulations may change. You can get a green card together with your DDOR MTPL insurance policy.

Requirements for getting a green card

To get a green card, your vehicle must be covered by a valid MTPL insurance policy. The green card is issued by the insurance company which issued your MTPL insurance policy and is valid for the same period. The green card can be issued for different types of vehicles, including cars, trucks, motorcycles, and other motor vehicles.

How much does a green card cost?

The price of the green card is fixed and identical for all vehicle types – 2,000 dinars. You can buy it at any time during the validity period of your MTPL insurance, and the price will always be 2,000 dinars, regardless of the validity period.
