Smederevo is the third city where trees were planted as part of DDOR’s campaign “For a forest in your area”, announced and launched in the run-up to last year’s Belgrade Car Show. Tree planting was organized in partnership with the City of Smederevo and on this occasion the mayor of Smederevo, Jovan Beč, and the director of the Smederevo branch office, Dragan Višekruna, symbolically planted a red maple tree together. In this way, the environment has been improved in three of ten cities selected after thousands of votes were cast from more than 188 cities across Serbia. After Smederevo, Zrenjanin and Novi Sad, February and March 2023 are reserved for the afforestation of Belgrade, Subotica, Sremska Mitrovica, Vršac, Užice, Novi Pazar and Tutin. Having recognized the importance of this campaign, which goes hand in hand with the long-term strategy of Unipol Group and DDOR Osiguranje as its member, the company has extended the campaign in 2023 to all 12 months of the year in order to provide more funds through eco-policies to make Serbian cities even greener.
After thanking DDOR Osiguranje, employees of the Smederevo branch office and its director, Mr. Višekruna, mayor of Smederevo, Jovan Beč said: „Today, we planted one of about 20 red maple saplings and we are happy to know that Smederevo is the third city where trees are planted as part of DDOR’s campaign. Every year, our city allocates considerable funds for the maintenance and improvement of public green areas. Campaigns like this are very important and beneficial. In addition to this campaign, Smederevo will also apply for funds to co-finance the afforestation project aimed at maintaining and preserving landscape diversity in 2023. I am also pleased to announce that this year we will hopefully launch the transfer station project, supported by the Ministry of Environmental Protection. I cannot emphasize enough how grateful the City of Smederevo is to DDOR for this campaign. We will certainly continue to work on making the city greener and creating a healthier environment and cleaner air for our citizens.“
Commenting on the campaign, the director of the Smederevo branch office Dragan Višekruna said: „Smederevo got new trees in Vuka Karadžića street and our fellow citizens got a healthier environment and cleaner air. I am happy that our city is among the first to receive saplings in the campaign „For a forest in your area“ and that DDOR is helping us protect and improve the environment. Our company is an integral part of the life of this city, its residents, families and companies. Through the quality of our insurance services and genuine care for our community, we have proven today that we are worth the trust they have placed in us for years. We continue to implement the strategy of protecting and improving the environment in which we operate, with the support of our Unipol Group, but also to actively raise awareness of important environmental issues. The campaign “For a forest in your area” proves that we can all get involved and if we combine our seemingly insignificant actions, we can contribute to the development of society as a whole. I would like to thank the City of Smederevo and its representatives for their support and I believe that we will continue to make our city healthier in the future.”
Before Smederevo, 50 trees were planted in Novi Sad in December 2022 in the park by the main train station and 78 were planted in Zrenjanin in February 2023 in Karađorđev park. As previously announced, a new cycle of the project “For a forest in your area” began in 2023. In addition to the completion of the campaign launched in 2022, it also includes the allocation of funds from each stipulated eco-policy of DDOR for tree planting in the following year. By arranging eco-Casco or eco-Moja kućica insurance, as well as annual eco-Travel insurance package, our clients contribute directly to the number of new trees planted in cities throughout Serbia.
